Borgata Winter Poker Open Day 17: George St. Lawrence Claims Victory in Event #22
The 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open continued on Thursday with Event #22 $230 Black Chip Bounty NLHE Re-Entry. While the stage was being set for Day 4 of the WPT $3 Million Guaranteed Championship, other players flocked to the felt for this exciting re-entry event. The tournament attracted a total of 272 players, and in the end it was won by George St. Lawrence. St. Lawrence pocketed $14,775 for his victory which more than tripled his total career tournament earnings.

The first casualty of the final table came when Luis Alves moved the last of his stack in before the flop with K?J?. William Givens called with Q?Q? and had the lead in the hand. The flop paired Alves when it fell 2?J?2? and the turn gave him outs to make a flush with the 5?. Unfortunately, he failed to improve beyond that as the 4? finished off the board on the river. Alves collected $1,055 for his finish.
Following Alves out the door was Cornel Cimpan who fell in eighth place. Cimpan ran his A?8? into Addison Alston's A?A? and was eliminated after a runout of K?Q?10?4?6?. Jeremy Beck was the next to fall as he moved his short stack all in before the flop with 8?6?. He was called by Johnny Escobalez who held K?J?. The board ran out clean, allowing Escobalez to score the elimination with just king high.
Despite scoring the previous elimination, Escobalez found himself making his way to the rail in sixth place soon after. On his final hand, Escobalez found himself all in on a board of A?4?J?K? against Andres Sierra.

Escobalez was out in front with his flopped set of jacks and looked primed to score a timely double up. Unfortunately for Escobalez, a Qx drilled the river and gave Sierra a Broadway straight for the win. Escobalez exited in sixth place and took home $2,638 in prize money.
Aaron Carr landed in fifth place after he moved all in for his tournament life from the small blind. St. Lawrence called from the big blind and rolled over 9?9?. Carr showed A?5? and was looking to improve. He failed to do so through as the board fell K?7?7?4?4? and he made a quick exit from the tournament area.
Sierra was the next elimination after he moved all in on a board of 5?A?Q?9?. Givens called the bet and showed A?J? for top pair. Sierra tabled K?5? for bottom pair and a flush draw and looked to improve on fifth street to stay alive. The deck had different plans, though, as the 4? finished off the board and Sierra was awarded a $4,063 payday for his fourth-place finish.
Shortly thereafter, Alston fell at the hands of St. Lawrence and became the tournament's third place finisher. In Alston's final hand, Givens opened with a raise and St. Lawrence three-bet the action. Alston jammed all in from the big blind and Givens let his hand go. St. Lawrence called and showed A?10?. Alston rolled up A?Q? and was in the lead heading to the flop. That lead quickly disappeared, however, as the flop came ten-high with 10?8?5?. St. Lawrence suddenly held the lead with a pair of tens and Alston was the one looking to improve. He found no help on the turn (6?) or the river (4?) and fell in third place.
After a head up match that saw both players hold the chip lead, the match finally came to a head around 3:45 am local time. Givens announced an all in bet from the button and St. Lawrence pushed forward a call.

The board ran out J?Q?K?A?4?, giving St. Lawrence a winning straight to end the tournament and send Givens home as the runner up. Despite falling just short of the championship, Givens was still awarded a solid prize of $8,707 for second place.
