World Poker Tour Prague Day 4: Sbrzesny Leads Final Table
Another day of action went down on the felt Saturday for Day 4 of the PartyPoker World Poker Tour Prague. When the day began, 22 players remained, but at the end there was just six of them. Leading the way was PartyPoker Pro Bodo Sbrzesny with 4.605 million in chips.
WPT Prague Final Table
Seat | Player | Chips |
---|---|---|
1 | Alin Grasu | 855,000 |
2 | Marcin Wydrowski | 2,745,000 |
3 | Tony Chang | 3,610,000 |
4 | Michael Gagliano | 2,375,000 |
5 | Bodo Sbrzesny | 4,605,000 |
6 | Alexander Lakhov | 2,815,000 |
There were several big names still left when the day began, but they were picked off one by one as the day progressed. Lars Bonding (22nd $15,978) and Yann Dion (20th $17,874) were two of the first two go, before WPT Champions Club member Dmitry Gromov hit the rail in 17th place ($20,396). Dermot Blain later went out in 13th place ($23,758). Right after Blain's exit, top-tier pro Jason Mercier became the next casualty. Mercier began the day as the shortest stack remaining, but saw his run second-deepest WPT run end at the hands of Sbrzesny.
During Level 23 with the blinds at 10,000/20,000/3,000, action folded to Sbrzesny on the button, and he raised to 40,000 with an absent player in the small blind. Mercier reraised all in, and Sbrzesny called holding the A?5?. Mercier had the J?8?.
Mercier took the lead on the J?8?3? flop, but Sbrzesny had a flush draw that kept him right in it. The K? completed Sbrzesny's flush on the turn, leaving Mercier needing a jack or an eight on the river to fill up. It wouldn't be as the K? fell and paired the wrong card on the board. Mercier was eliminated in 12th place, where he collected $29,243.
Another well-known pro in Kevin MacPhee hit the rail next, then Fabian Quoss fell in 10th place ($29,243). After Daniel Ospina exited in eighth, all eyes were on 2011 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion Elio Fox.
On what would be the final hand of the day, Fox was all in during Level 25 with the blinds at 15,000/30,000/5,000. He had the A?J? and was up against the 8?8? for Sbrzesny. After a board of Q?9?3?9?8?, Sbrzesny won the pot with a full house, and Fox was eliminated in seventh place ($66,472).
With six players left, the official WPT final table had been set, and it was Sbrzesny out in front of them all. Bringing up the rear was Alin Grasu with 855,000. He was the only player to bag up less than two million in chips.
