2011 PokerStars.net APPT Macau Day 2: Ivey Eliminated; Seet Crushing the Competition

Day 2 of the 2011 PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Main Event has wrapped up. When the day began, 304 players returned to take their seats at the felt. At the end of the day, about 100 players remained and Nathaniel Seet lead the way. He bagged up a whopping 774,500 in chips.

Seet took the lead early in the day and never looked back. His stack kept rising and rising as he destroyed most of his opponents en route to the end-of-day chip lead. Seet does have some APPT success. In 2008, he final tabled the APPT Auckland Main Event and finished in eighth place. He also won the APPT Manilla High Roller that same year. In 2010, Seet placed 10th in the APPT Cebu Main Event. He'll be looking to best both of those finishes and has set himself up nicely to do so.

Early on, Seet sent Paul Foltyn to the rail on the following hand. From the cutoff, Seet raised to 3,300. Start-of-the-day chip leader Chieh Su Shih called from the small blind and then Foltyn reraised to 9,100 from the big blind and action went back to Seet. He reraised and made it 17,300 to go. Shih folded and then Foltyn moved all-in for 58,700. Seet took a few moments and then made the call.

Seet: 10?10?
Foltyn: A?8?

The board ran out 9?8?6?J?6? and Foltyn was eliminated. Seet moved to around 385,000 in chips.

Later in the day, Seet tangled with PokerStars Team Online player Randy Lew. We came to the action with a board showing 9?J?K?5? and Lew in a hand with Seet. On the turn, Lew took quite a while before he decided to check, and Seet also tanked before checking. The river was the 4?, and again, Lew thought for a long time before deciding what to do. Lew eventually bet 24,000, which was around a half-pot-sized bet.

After some time, Seet said, "I won't raise you," and called, turning over A?A? to trump the A?K? of Lew. That moved Seet to just shy of 500,000 in chips.

Coming into Day 2, all eyes were on Phil Ivey. He entered the day with just over 50,000 in his stack and never seemed to get anything going. The largest amount we caught him at was 70,000 before things started really going south. Ivey's stack got shorter and shorter as the day progressed before eventually falling in the last level of play.

On Ivey's second-to-last hand, action folded to Ivey in the small blind and he limped in with the blinds at 1,500/3,000/300. The player in the big blind raised all-in to put Ivey at risk if he were to call. Ivey folded and was left with 19,000.

On the next hand, action folded to Darren Judges in the cutoff seat. He raised to 7,000. Ivey reraised all-in for 18,700 from the button and the blinds folded. Judges called with A?J?. Ivey held K?9?. The board ran out 6?6?5?10?8? and Ivey's return to live tournament poker has come to an end.

Outside of Ivey, some of the notables eliminated throughout the day's play were Team PokerStars Pros Alex Kravchenko, Vivian Im, Bryan Huang and Raymond Wu. Team Online's Mickey Petersen was also eliminated, leaving just Nacho Barbero and the aforementioned Lew left to represent the red spade badge.

Some of the notables advancing to Day 3 are David Steicke, Jeff Rossiter, Andrew Scott and Terrence Chan. Another Chan is also moving on and that's 10-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner and two-time WSOP Main Event champion Johnny Chan. He'll be back in action on Day 3 as well.

Day 3 will commence at 1200 CST (Saturday, 2000 PDT) at PokerStars Macau on Sunday. PokerNews will be on hand for all of the live coverage, so be sure to join us. You won't want to miss a thing!
