The 2011 World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star Championship Event continued on Tuesday with Day 1b rounding out the starting days. Another 273 players joined the action, including 26 more Shooting Stars. When play was over for the day, Chris Trapani had packed the most chips in his bag 197,900. Trapani is the son of the late Marko Trapani who founded the Bay 101 Shooting Star in 1997.

Trapani saw his stack grow to the chip lead in the last level of the night thanks to a couple of key hands. First, he sent Erick Lindgren to the rail. Then, he took a pot from McLean Karr.

According to the World Poker Tour Live Update Team, on the hand with Lindgren, the two got all the money in preflop with both holding pocket kings. Trapani held the K?K? and Lindgren the K?K?. The flop came down 10?9?2?, and Trapani picked up an edge having flopped a flush draw. The turn completed that draw with the 3? falling before the river landed with the 7?. Lindgren signed his Shooting Star shirt and handed it over along with his $5,000 bounty.

Then on one of the last hands of the night, Trapani and Karr each saw flops of 12,500. The flop came down J?5?4? and Karr bet 17,800. Trapani raised to 38,000 and won the pot. Now, although it doesnt seem like much, this hand pushed Trapani just barely ahead of Joris Springael for the chip lead and netted him $10,000 for ending the day as chip leader. Springael finished in second place with 196,500 chips.

Once again, the Shooting Stars were out in full as former WPT champions Eric Baldwin, Phil Ivey, Antonio Esfandiari, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, David Williams, and Michael Mizrachi all had $5,000 bounties on their heads. Some of the others who joined them were Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Selbst, Daniel Cates, Jennifer Tilly and Todd Brunson.

Ivey was eliminated in the last level of the night. He moved all in from early position for 4,200 with the blinds at 500-1,000 with a 100 ante. Ronald Li reraised from middle position to 8,500 and one player called on the button while everyone else folded. After the flop came down 10?6?3?, Li bet 5,000 and the button shoved for 30,000. Li made the call having the button covered.

Ivey: Q?9?
Li: A?Q?
Button: 4?3?

The turn brought the 6? to pair the board and the river the A?. The ace on the river gave Li the winning hand and eliminated both Ivey and the player on the button. Not only did Li earn a double elimination on the hand, but he also scored the $5,000 bounty that was on Iveys head.

Some of the other players who built some nice stacks on Day 1b were David Doc Sands (175,000), Justin Young (165,800) and Randy Dorfman (156,500). Those that hit the rail were Mike Sowers, Josh Arieh, Miami John Cernuto and Scotty Nguyen.
