In Case You Missed It

How are you going to spend your summer? We can think of 58 ways. Check out the just-released 2011 World Series of Poker schedule.

The World Series of Poker Circuit Choctaw crowned a winner Monday. If you missed any of the action, you can check out the WSOP-C recap for the results.

We wish we were on the winning end of the jackpot at Aria over the weekend. You're going to wish you were too once you read all about it in Inside Gaming.

Daniel Cates and Phil Ivey may be in Australia for the 2011 Aussie Millions, but that doesn't mean they can't tangle online. The Online Railbird Report has a look at the high-stakes action between the two over the last few days.

A Different Kind of Kryptonite

Aussie pro poker player David Saab and his mates Francis Hughes and Robert Reemus were arrested on Tuesday morning on drug charges. Unfortunately for the trio, these aren't exactly your simple possession citations. Australian Federal Police allege that the three men tried to import 21 kilograms (~46 pounds) of cocaine into the country concealed in a shipment of steel machine parts that were boated in from Vancouver.

The three men are charged with importing and attempting to possess a commercial quantity of cocaine, and they've been remanded in custody until their next court date in May.

The Herald Sun has the story.

Double Double

On Monday, Full Tilt Poker launched its $30 Million Double Guarantees Week. That means, from January 24 through January 30, all the prize pools in the weekly guaranteed tournaments are doubled. In addition to that, all weekly guaranteed tournaments were converted into Multi-Entry tournaments.

The Full Tilt $1k Monday smashed its $600,000 guarantee, creating a prize pool of $1,454,000. There were 1,454 entrants in the event, and that includes the multiple entries (four max) from quite a few of the players.

Play concluded after about ten hours of play, with Shaun "tedsfishfry" Deeb taking home the lion's share of $312,610. Also at the final table was Emil "whitelime" Patel, who finished in third place for $146,854.

Plenty of players took advantage of the multiple entry format including Vivek Rajkumar (who cashed twice), Andy Bloch, Carlos Mortensen, Jason Somerville, Carter King, Andrew Lichtenberger, and Allen Cunningham, all of whom entered the maximum number of times, and cashed at least once.

There are plenty of Double Guarantee events going on the rest of the week, but you won't be able to participate if you don't have a Full Tilt Poker account, so get one and get in the game.

World Poker Tour Southern Poker Championship

On Sunday, the World Poker Tour Southern Poker Championship got under way at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Mississippi. Thanks again to our second grade teacher for making sure we'd always know how to spell that state. Anyway, pretty much every notable who didn't make the trip down under for the 2011 Aussie Millions headed down to the Deep South instead, 214 of them in all.

Among them were November Niner Joseph Cheong, Jason Mercier, Jonathan Little, Kara Scott, and former WPT champions Gavin Smith, Andy Frankenberger, Scotty Nguyen, and Dwyte Pilgrim. Of the starters, 144 survived to make Monday's Day 2 with Robert Keller's stack of 179,025 leading the way.

Monday's action saw those survivors further trimmed to just 66 after another five levels of action. Kevin Elias led the way into Day 3 with 229,900 chips in his bag for the overnight soak, but Lee Markholt (who was in and out of the chip lead), Smith, Chad Brown, Hoyt Corkins, and Shannon Shorr were hot on his heels.

The survivors from Day 2 are back inside the Beau Rivage to play down into the money. Then final 27 players will earn a payday with their sights set on the first prize of more than $600,000.
