This Week in Tournament Poker: August 1-7, 2010
Adding to our ever-growing batch of content, PokerNews would like to introduce This Week in Tournament Poker. This new piece will be a recurring article focusing on the happenings in the world of tournament poker. Much like our Sunday Briefing article does, well briefly recap the major events that went on during the prior week. To keep things as simple as possible, well be focusing on Main Events for tournament series that have a buy-in of at least $1,000 or 1,000.
Wrapping up this past week in the United States, we have the Borgata Double Play, Gold Strike World Poker Open Championship Event and Summer Pot of Gold Championship Event.
The Borgata is known as the tournament poker powerhouse of the East Coast, proving it once again with a massive turnout that saw 513 entries in action. The tournament did allow for players to enter on both Day 1a and 1b, hence the title Double Play. Still, the World Poker Open and Summer Pot of Gold only saw around 100 entrants each. Borgata was able to pull in 191 entrants for Day 1a alone on their event.
Tyler Smith was the winner of $152,529 in the World Poker Open Championship Event, taking home the largest first-place prize money out of this bunch. Robert Rudovic won the Double Play Tournament at The Borgata for $141,765. Not quite as much, but not a bad payday for one-fifth of the buy-in. As for the Summer Pot of Gold, Danny Smith took down that title and $29,718. Here are the results.

In other tournament news throughout the rest of the world, the European Masters of Poker II took place in Bulgaria and the Partouche Poker Million wrapped up in Spain.
Manig Loeser was no loser in the first of these two events, winning first place and taking home 49,080 after he topped a field of 260 entrants at the Crystal Crown Casino in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria. At the Casino Gran Madrid in Spain where the Partouche Poker Million was held, Raul Paez Corral raked in 100,000 in prize money for his first-place finish out of the 89-player field. Although the Partouche event was estimated at having a prize pool of 1,000,000, it could only muster about a quarter of that, not that Corral is going to throw a fuss about his six-figure payday. Heres a look at the final results from those two events.
