Heading to the Sunshine State

The World Poker Tour has just finalized a contract with the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida. Not only are Florida poker players experiencing no cap on their play and extended hours of operation for their card rooms after legislation passed July 1, but they can now look forward to a $10,000 televised WPT event next year, scheduled to take place April 27 through May 3, 2011.

"What's exciting is that Florida will draw from not only the local area, but from across the world," WPT CEO Steve Heller said. "This year youll see Florida boom as poker market."

The WPT has a five-year contract for a least one tournament a year at either the Tampa or Hollywood, Florida Hard Rock Hotel and Casinos.

"I'm extremely excited that there is going to be a WPT event in my hometown. I would love to make the final table of that event so that I could have all of my friends and relatives come watch me play," said Jason Mercier.

Lonesome Shark

The latest installment of Poker After Dark focuses six of poker's most successful bachelors, although we're not sure how some of their girlfriends feel about "bachelor's week." Erick Lindgren, James Akenhead, Antonio Esfandiari, Mike Matusow, David Williams, andBrad Booth will have all put up the $20,000 to take part of this week's series of shows, entitled "Lonesome Shark," all with the hopes of taking the $120,000 first-place prize.

Akenhead makes his PAD debut and the rest of them are looking for their first wins (Lindgren, Esfandiari, and Booth) or to add to their win record (Williams and Matusow).

Software Update

If you haven't logged on to PokerStars in the last few days, first, shame on you. Second, you'll be met with the "PokerStars Update" box when you do. PokerStars has rolled out a new software update to make your experience more enjoyable.

Focus improvements were made, meaning that when you've signed up for a tournament it will open in the background and won't steal the focus from the other 10 tables you've got going on until it is your turn to act. "You've been moved to another table" will now appear on the table and when you're waiting on a seat at another table, when it becomes available, the pop-up message won't force you to act on it until you've finished your action at your current table.

There is now a VPIP column, new updates to the player notes, and the introduction of Triple Stud among other things.

The PokerStars Blog outlines all the updates for you. You should probably go ahead and download PokerStars through PokerNews and take advantage of our exclusive freerolls including the $10,000 WCOOP freeroll.

Unibet Open

The Unibet Open Prague stop took place August 5 through 8. The 1,500 event attracted a field of 424 players, creating a prize pool of 636,000.

Jan Skampa, Pieter de Korver, Sorel Mizzi, and Andrew Teng were among the players who took part in the event. Skampa went into the final table with the chip lead, but couldn't hold on to it and was eliminated in third place for 67,600. It was Henri Ojala from Finland who came out on top of the field, taking home the 157,000 first-place prize.
