2008 WSOP Event #12 $1,500 Limit Hold'em Day 2 ¨C Vinny Vinh Takes Lead 0001

179 players returned to the Amazon Room at the Rio for Day 2 of Event #12, $1,500 Limit Hold'em at the 2008 World Series of Poker. Among those returning were Marco Traniello, Erick Lindgren, Markus Golser, Tom Schneider and Terrence Chan. Vinny Vinh, who gained notoriety at the 2007 WSOP for cashing in two events and never returning to play the final days, finished Day 2 with the chip lead after making the final 18 players. Play was halted before the final table was reached due to the length of the day.

Marcel Luske was one of the early eliminations on Day 2, getting his last chips in with 7?4? against Kevin Marcotte's A?5?. No help on the board for Luske, and he was eliminated well before the money. Other early eliminations included Tony Licastro, Bryan Devonshire and James Gorham. The money bubble burst just before the scheduled dinner break, so the break was moved up to allow players to celebrate their money finish at leisure.

Once play resumed after dinner, the bustouts came in flurries as the short stacks no longer needed to cling to life just to cash. Among the early-evening eliminations were Tom Schneider, Anna Wroblewski, Dewy Tomko, Marco Traniello and Victor Ramdin. Ramdin went to the rail in a three-way pot with Erick Lindgren and Chris Jackson. Lindgren raised preflop, and both Ramdin and Jackson called. Lindgren fired at the 4?2?7? flop, and Ramdin check-raised. Jackson three-bet, Lindgren re-raised, and Ramdin capped the betting. The 9? turn brought an all-in bet from Jackson, which Lindgren called. Ramdin raised and Lindgren made the call. Lindgren led out when the Q? came on the river, and Ramdin called off the last of his chips with pocket kings. Jackson tabled a turned set with 9?9?, but both men were eliminated when Lindgren tabled Q?Q? for the rivered top set. Lindgren rode his wave of success to the final 18 players on his way to try for his second bracelet of 2008.

Play slowed considerably once the field reached three tables, and as the night turned towards morning, Terrence Chan was eliminated by Vinny Vinh not long before play was halted for the day. Chan raised from the small blind when action folded to him, and found one caller from Vinh in the big blind. Chan bet out in the dark on the flop, and Vinh raised him all in. Chan made the call as the flop came down 7?Q?Q?. Vinh was ahead with K?9?, and Chan tabled 10?6?. No help on the turn or river, and Chan was eliminated in 25th place ($6,736).

When play reached the final 18 players, the tournament staff made the decision to end Day 2 and return early on Day 3 to play down to the final table. Vinny Vinh finished the day with the chip lead, with Lindgren in second position. Here are the complete chip stacks for today's remaining players:
