PokerNews Cup Austria, Day 2 Highlights
115 players returned to the Concord Card Casino in Salzburg, Austria for Day 2 of the PokerNews Cup Austria, including T6 Poker pro Henrik Gwinner, who started the day second in chips behind Harald Suschegg. Other notable players remaining in the field included Rolf Slotboom and Rikard Aberg. The day played down to 31 remaining competitors, with many of the early favorites left on the rail by might's end, including Gwinner, Suschegg and Slotboom.
Gwinner's day came to an early end after being himself crippled by an unfortunate steal attempt. Gwinner made a stiff raise from under the gun and found himself pot committed when Marja-Terttu Autti moved all in over the top. Gwinner called with 5?6?, and Autti was well in the lead with Q?J?. The board brought no help for Gwinner, coming down K?7?10?7?2?, and Autti doubled through the Team T6 Poker member. Gwinner was eliminated soon after that hand when he moved all in with Q-J and didn't improve against Wasi Akhund's A-K. He was joined on the rail by fellow T6 Poker pros Kenny Nordlund and Anthony Chatelain, who were both eliminated fairly early on Day 2.
Rolf Slotboom started the day in the middle of the pack, but busted just short of the money bubble when he called off the last of his chips with K?J? after chip leader Goran Petrovic went over the top of his preflop raise with A?Q?. Petrovic picked up a queen on the 7?8?Q? flop, and the turn and river brought no help for Slotboom as he departed.
Petrovic spent much of the day as the chip leader, but stumbled late when he made a move against Erich Kollmann in one of the last hands of the night. The board read 5?5?J?7?A?, and Kollmann led out at the pot. Petrovic thought for a moment before he made a significant raise, which forced Kollmann to think for several long minutes before finally calling. Petrovic tabled K?10?, for a failed steal, and Kollmann's A?Q? was good to take down a big pot and knock Petrovic off the top of the leader board in one of the final hands of the night. That hand propelled Kollmann to a top-five chip stack as Day 2 drew to a close, with Pierre Marceau closing out the day as the chip leader.
