Matthew Kredell is a freelance writer based in Los Angeles. He was a sportswriter at the L.A. Daily News when a friend got him into playing small-stakes poker in home games and online in 2004. After the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act disrupted his hobby, he was motivated to report on the burgeoning effort to license and regulate online poker. Bringing a journalistic background to poker writing, Matt started as a contributor for BLUFF Magazine early in 2008, then moved to PokerNews to cover the political/legislative beat in August of 2009. He has secured interviews with four U.S. Congressmen, eight state legislators and former New Mexico governor/2012 presidential candidate Gary Johnson. He also has written for publications such as Playboy Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine and ESPN.com. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA in journalism in 2001.
